Woop woop!
My first piece of uni work on dA horaaaaayy! :w00t:

This was for our first assesed piece in 'conceptual thinking' class, where we were asked to illustrate a phobia.

For ommetophobia, the fear of eyes, I chose to try & illustrate a bit of the fear I can understand, which is the fear of your eyes being damaged. So here we have precious precious eye in it's eyebox, with the eyelid to the eyebox (lol) not there to protect it. C'mon it'd be scary to have no eyelids! The black...hand thingies, are representive of threats to the eye in general, since everything from dust to sunlight can damage our eyes.

I hope it's at least a little bit scary! :XD:
The black...hand thingies were drawn in ink with a brush & toothbrush, then I added a little colour & textures in Photoshop CS2 & Painter IX.

funny how our brains work, its a very interesting piece, and I'd say effective. Though the first thing I thought with the fear of eyes is the fear of being watched, or looking directly at someone, like eye contact. Maybe that's just because sometimes too much eye contact freaks me out. I like the simplicity of this, the exposed eye ball, and the solidity of the black creepy scratchy hand like things is particularly effective.

Scratchy 'arms' are awesome, they almost kinda look like the veins you get in your eyes also which adds to the awesomeness factor. Lol at the eyebox and eyebox lid, great concept.
